readability   |   use of color

READABILITY

- Koi -

The font sizes used are appropriate. The color of the body text changes between dark grey and white, depending on the color of the background they are placed against. This ensures readability, but at the same time reduces consistency.

- Gong Cha -

Some red headings are placed against dark-colored backgrounds, which makes it hard to read. The font size of the text body is much smaller than the text heading which makes for great contrast, but the font size is a little too small for comfortable reading.

- Yuan Cha -

Yuan Cha’s front page features a photo of a tea plantation as background, with links to “Drinks Menu” and “Brand Story” on the foreground. The link buttons have solid-colored background (green and grey) which increases the readability. Yuan Cha does this better than Gong Cha — Gong Cha’s “About Us” page also features a tea plantation photo as background, but words are placed in a manner which reduces readability.

USE OF COLOR

- Koi -

One of KOI’s selling point is its golden pearls, to match this, there is use of brown-golden in text headings and the background color of the navigation bar.

- Gong Cha -

The footer of the page, the icons of the navigation bar and the text headings use various shades of liver red and red, which aligns with the Gong cha logo.

- Yuan Cha -

The pages are largely based on white backgrounds, which creates contrast with its content, resulting in focus. The use of only three main colors gives the site a very clean visual feel; a standardised font color — a very dark grey, against the white backgrounds; and the use of green for accents and links. The green is the color of its logo, showing consistency.
